Bloomfield School District News Updates
  • A Message From The SuperintendentPosted yesterday @ 9:03 PM
It was brought to my attention late Saturday evening that a pupil at Bloomfield High School, posted a photograph of himself with a weapon on social media.  The caption of this post made a derogatory and inflammatory reference to the tragedy in South Florida.

In light of our concern for safety and our zero-tolerance policy, the Bloomfield Police Department was involved which resulted in a determination that the picture in question was taken out of state and the pupil is not in possession of any weapons and is not currently part of the regular program.

Please be aware that this unfortunate event does not present a current threat to the Bloomfield School District community.

Although I am sympathetic to the public inquiries regarding this event, I urge community members and parents to be aware that we are obligated to follow pupil privacy laws and I will provide further updates as they become available and as they become appropriate to disseminate.

During the wrestling match between Irvington and Bloomfield last evening- the Irvington wrestler- Elijah Blizzard couldn't get his head gear fastened. His opponent Bloomfield's Nassir Simmons did it for him. In the scheme of things it was just a small interaction between two opponents that presumably had never met prior to this match. But although a small gesture it was significant. Significant that the one young man offered to do it without being asked, and significant because the other young man allowed him to do it. Their teammates saw what was happening and both teams applauded- the fans in attendance did likewise.
